SARAH CODY

HPS Secretary, Sarah Cody, is a woman with winning ways. Last season she came second in the annual
colour prints competition, joint second in projected digital images and
took home the brand new trophy introduced this year for the public’s
favourite photograph in our exhibition.
Sarah grew up in a photography-friendly home. Her late father, Ken Andrews, was a keen
photographer and in fact used to belong to HPS himself until 1982.
What surprised me most was how
recently Sarah took up photography in a serious way. And it happened
almost by accident.
In 2004 Sarah and her long-term partner, Andrew Scoggins, our
external events secretary, were on holiday in California. Finding herself on her own on a deserted beach she took a picture of waves breaking over a rock
which then became the public’s favourite photograph in the 2005
exhibition.
Since then her interest has grown.
Sarah, 50, has two daughters by her previous marriage, Katy, 20
and Louisa, 16. Her present digital
camera is a Canon 20D and her favourite subjects are moving things and
macro (remember her lemon slices in lemonade?). She works as a secretary for a
construction consultancy and enjoys taking pictures of colleagues playing
cricket and football.
One of her favourite photographic memories is of a visit to
Welney in Norfolk. They feed the swans there three times a
day and the birds flock in from the surrounding fields.
Here’s some of Sarah’s
favourite pictures

Boats at Southend Fizzy
Cherries
Day of Rest

Modern Living
Hebridean Beech
